woman drives to another state to shoot online commenter

summary: this woman, Breanna Greathouse was apparently on this board called UndergroundHipHop.com and was involved in some kind of antagonistic online relationship with a dude named Forest. as with all hip-hop feuds, things eventually reached the "busting guns" point and Ms Greathouse decided to drive to Forest's house with a loaded gun and "put a cap in his ass, like buk buk buk, kapow, chicka-boom!"

fortunately (or unfortunately) for all the parties involved, Breanna was caught by the cops. the original article i read was a bit terse, and after doing some digging on UGHH, based on several unreliable sources i have pieced together several "facts."

-breanna is 25 and may or may not (although most think she did) have sexual relations with forest
-forest is possibly a 40 year old man who lives with his 70 year old mom
-when forest saw breanna coming locked and loaded to his door, he made his mom answer while he called the cops
-i don't think anyone on UGHH actually likes either of these people.
-there is possibly a lifetime movie in the works based on this riveting story
-the UGHH forums feel strangely familiar... like i've seen all these people on 4chan

just another case of the growing pains humanity is going through as we move into this new age. be careful who you troll folks, they might just flip out and kill you. we are after all, just animals.

so I think it's fascinating, the age we live in, where being an attention-whore can get you beat down by hundreds or maybe thousands of people all at once? if you're not familiar with the girl in this video, her name is Jessi Slaughter (or something like that) you can read the story on encyclopediadramatica.com but the short version of the story is that she was putting out youtube videos, generally acting like a brat. But when her video showed up on 4Chan /b/ they decided to try and ruin her life, which included prank calling her, email spamming her, and sending out some sexually suggestive photos that she had posted on her facebook. She became an instant meme.

it's kind of sad to punish an 11 year old so badly for being a brat. but on the other hand, it's great that we live in an age with the internet, because if it's one thing the internet is good for, it's putting people on blast for their bad behavior. it reminds me of this Japanese cartoon called "Akira" which was about a put upon boy who gained super powers from a government experiment, and then after going on a rampage where he destroys his girlfriend and himself, he is absorbed by the spirit of this boy "Akira"... anyway, it's a weird anime, but at one point in the anime, another character says, "imagine if you were to give the powers of a human, to an amoeba..." and she has some metaphorical monolog after that, but that's the whole idea... the internet is like giving the powers of a human to an amoeba... you can have your 15 minutes of fame, but it might not be the way you want it.

maybe this will encourage people to think a little bit more about how they act in public and in what they perceive as private. the sooner we all begin acting like the people we are, and not the people we want to be perceived as, we can work on becoming the people we want to be.

girl in coma after making disparaging commits about dead brother

this has been making the rounds, and like Epic Beard Man, presents an interesting grey area. from what i can gather, this girl sent some disparaging txts to a boy, about his brother who had committed suicide. the boy then, in retaliation, showed up at her school and kicked the shit out of her, leaving her in a coma and needing several surgeries to relieve pressure on her brain.

people on 4chan have posted both, in support of the girl who got beat down and in support of the boy who did the beating.

did she deserve to get her head kicked in? no. do I feel bad for her? not really. if you go around talking shit about someone's sibling who committed suicide, not only is that incredibly mean but also incredibly stupid. as was pointed out on the thread, people today forget that we live in a society where the person you insult may be a seriously disturbed individual. i'm not saying the kids of Columbine were justified, but maybe if their peers had simply left them alone, they wouldn't have shot up their school.

i think this points to a bigger problem too. and (at this point i'm just generalizing) i think in our current american society, violence and fist fights are really looked down upon. i can remember as a kid being told not to insult kids back and not to fight, but what is the alternative? stand there and let someone beat you up? this simply builds anger and resentment, and it will continue to fester and if left unchecked, can turn into a suicide, self-mutilation, or in the case of Columbine, a massacre. would it not be better for our society to teach kids, that if someone is bullying them, they ought to stand up and tell the bully to fuck off and maybe punch them? the net gain then becomes that the little bully learns early, that it's not a good idea to go around picking on people, the bullied child learns some self-respect and vents the pressure of being bullied. and cost is perhaps a black eye or a swollen face.

a lot of our societies woes come down to parents not instilling values in their children. when an adult throws a tantrum, customer service rewards him with a free meal. now he knows that every time he throws a tantrum, he can expect something for nothing. where did he learn this? probably from his parents who gave him something every time he threw a tantrum, or at the very least, didn't smack him when he threw a tantrum to teach him that was not acceptable behavior. and now? if i were to smack an adult who threw a tantrum i'd probably be arrested.

people are tired of being put-upon, and more and more are deciding they don't give a fuck about anything, not the law, not their own life, and especially not your life.

we as a society need to be more considerate of one another, if not for moral reasons, than for the simple reason that the person you insult today might put on a pair of steel-toed boots and kick your head in tomorrow.

baaaaaww threads

my favorite threads are "baaawww threads"... usually someone will start a baww thread because they have broken up with their girl/boyfriend or friends/family have died. a bunch of people get together and post sad pictures and everyone ostensibly cries together. i always read baaawww threads, sometimes they seem whiny, but regardless of the kind of people they are, they are very lonely and getting together to share their loneliness somehow makes it okay.

in a small community, people could get together and shoulder burdens together, the way amish people build houses, but in our increasingly convenient and egalitarian world, on the road to becoming rugged individuals, people have stopped seeing a need for each other, at least, on a local level. i don't know any of my neighbors, and i don't really care to.

i like baawww threads for the same reason i like sad songs. you read it, and you feel sad, but you realize someone else felt the same way, because they made the thing you are looking at, and that makes things a little less sad.

gore threads

recently there was a photo recovered from some animal rescue site. it was of a dog's ear, which was covered in ticks. apparently ticks look like warts of pustules when they are filled with blood. it makes me cringe to look at it. maybe it's the sheer number of them, or the texture. i don't know, it's incredibly repulsive, as are most gore threads.

but lately i can't stop looking at them. even though i get this horrible feeling of disgust, i keep looking. i kind of crave the feeling in a weird way. i'm not sure what it is.

the Epic Beard Man Saga Continues

regardless of who started this, EBM obviously has some mental problems. at 2:50 he says he's a vietnam vet and then starts crying about how his mom died. that breaks my heart.

if not for Youtube and 4chan, no one would ever know about this guy. he'd be just another crazy dude on the street.
